No official statement was made by management of The Beer Hunter, which opened on June 16, 2010, just a year after the grand opening of the Countryside Marketplace complex at Haun Road and Newport Road. Presented in a sports bar atmosphere with seating for nearly 150 (including an outdoor patio) and 32 big-screen TVs tuned to sports events, The Beer Hunter initially attracted big crowds.
In addition to the crowds it drew on NFL Sundays and for other big sports events, The Beer Hunter attracted families with its food menu. It also offered musical entertainment on occasion, catering services and a full-service bar. City officials were known to gather there after public meetings down the street at City Hall.
In recent years, however, business had declined with the addition of restaurants such as BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in the same commercial center and Texas Roadhouse across Newport Road.
Jeff Wyman, economic development director with the City of Menifee, echoed the sentiments of those who are saddened by the closing of The Beer Hunter.
"It is very unfortunate when a business decides to close in the city, especially when the local economy is doing so well," Wyman wrote in an email to Menifee 24/7. "We will miss The Beer Hunter restaurant.
"This reminds me of when Old Navy decided to trim their number of stores and closed their Countryside Marketplace location. People were initially concerned, but were excited when Ulta Beauty Products and Justice leased the space vacated by Old Navy.
"The Countryside Marketplace as a whole is doing outstanding and sometimes new opportunities are created when a space in a center becomes available. The city will be working with the Countryside Marketplace owners to assist them any way we can to attract new restaurants or stores to this location, and the city is eager to see what new business(s) will open in the near future."
That's to bad that its closing. Been going there for many years. Went there every Sunday to watch our football games and teams. Became regulars got to know the staff. It was a great sports bar, there isn't another one like it in town or as big. The menu changed over the years, should have brought back the old one. I don't believe its closing because of the other restaurants in town, nothing like it. Just sad to see it go. Don't know where we'll go now.
ReplyDeleteIf they had kept the same menu they started with years ago, we would still be going there. There was too much emphasis on the bar.
ReplyDeleteParking is terrible especially in that section. In addition the parking spaces are small. We live in the world if the pick up truck and the paces are designed for an economy car. My family stopped frequenting all the restaurants there due to the parking
ReplyDeleteThe service at the beerhunter was terrible (it sounds like the from the comments above) the food quality followed that route. Most of the bartenders acted like they were forced to be there/ no warmth to customers while others were very helpful. At first it was good, but that was for a short period of time. Complained to management about the service, and all they said was they wish me the best. Didn't care
