Officers assigned to stations in Perris, Jurupa Valley and Thermal, in collaboration with the California Alcoholic Beverage Control agents, conducted an undercover Minor Decoy operation.

The Minor Decoy operation took place Oct. 30 and Nov. 5, and 27 off-sale liquor stores in various cities including Menifee, Canyon Lake, and Perris. Four stores sold to the minor decoy, while the other 23 were in full compliance.

Those who sell to the decoys face a minimum fine of $250 and/or 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first-time violation. In addition, the ABC will take administrative action against the alcoholic beverage license of the business. This can include a fine, suspension, or the permanent revocation of the license.

The Riverside Sheriff's Department is conducting these alcohol-related compliance checks to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors. Young people under 21, have a higher rate of drunk driving fatalities than the overall population.
