Emergency vehicles transported 21 patients to local hospitals following a crash involving an RTA bus and a passenger vehicle about 9 a.m. today in front of Heritage High School.

Five engine companies responded to the accident, which took place on Highway 74 near Briggs Road in the Romoland section of Menifee. School traffic and a light rain made conditions difficult for commuters.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution at all times, whether in rain or dry conditions -- especially near a school zone.
