Two San Marcos men were arrested for grand theft, possession of stolen property and conspiracy in connection with the removal of copper pipes from rooftop air conditioning units at Countryside Marketplace on Haun Road in Menifee.

According to Menifee Police, two suspects gained access to the rooftops of several businesses Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, and used tools to cut copper drainage pipes from air conditioning units. A store employee observed one of the suspects on the rooftop and notified law enforcement. Officers responded to the business and arrested a suspect.

A second suspect was identified and arrested by Menifee Police Department investigators in San Marcos this morning. Tools used to commit the crime and copper pipe were recovered.

Christopher Fischer (above), 32, and David Umlauf (right), 31, were booked into the Southwest Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to call Investigator Omar Rodriguez with the Menifee Police Department/Perris Station at 951-210-1053.
