Two Menifee high school students will be honored Tuesday night for their extracurricular activities with scholarships by the Lake Menifee Women's Club.

Samantha Amaya of Heritage High School and Ashley Chapin of Paloma Valley High School were selected as recipients of the Strength Through Extracurricular Participation award. The LMWC sponsors this annual award, which includes a $250 scholarship given to one girl from each high school.

Samantha is a sophomore and Key Club officer at Heritage High. Ashley is a senior and Battalion Executive Officer in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, NJROTC, at Paloma Valley High. The public is invited to attend the "STEP Up Award" ceremony Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Wheatfield Park Community Center, 30627 Menifee Road.

As a women’s organization, the LMWC seeks to promote the personal development of young ladies in the Menifee community. Candidates for the award were asked to write a 500-word essay on the topic, "Why is your extracurricular activity important to you, and how will it help you develop into a stronger woman?" During Tuesday night's ceremony, the recipients will read their essay aloud and be awarded their scholarship funds and certificates of participation.

The LMWC would like to congratulate the winners and thank all of the 2013-2014 participants, including finalists Nahtalie Escobar and Justyne Sanders of Heritage High School and Esmeralda Garcia and Kealani Torres of Paloma Valley High School.

The Lake Menifee Women’s Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Wheatfield Park Community Center. For more information or to join the club, visit lakemenifeewomensclub.org or call 951-708-0308.
