Transitional Kindergarten Information Offered to Local Parents

The Menifee Union School District will host three informational meetings for parents regarding Transitional Kindergarten, the effect of the Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010.

Incoming students who were born after the newly specified age requirements for kindergarten entry qualify for enrollment in the MUSD Transitional Kindergarten Program.

The informational meetings will be held on:

July 10 
5:30 p.m. at Evans Ranch Elementary School

July 23 
2:00 p.m. at Southshore Elementary

August 7 
10:00 a.m. at Quail Valley Elementary

The Kindergarten Readiness Act was established to prepare young students for grade school. It also changed the minimum age requirements for incoming kindergarten students.

According to the California Department of Education website, for the 2013-2014 school year, the child would have to have his or her fifth birthday by Oct. 1. For the 2014-2015 school year, the child would have to have his or her fifth birthday by Sept. 1.

Transitional Kindergarten is defined as "the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate."
