Menifee VFW Commander Named District Veteran of the Year

Assemblywoman Melissa A. Melendez has honored Menifee Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1956 Commander Peter Maroosis as the 2013 67th Assembly District Veteran of the Year.

Maroosis served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1965 aboard USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14).

“VFW Commander Maroosis is a man to admire. He leads by example and his new ideas about helping veterans are always on target, meaningful and forward thinking,” said Melendez.

Maroosis is the recipient of the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, Navy Commendation medal and the Good Conduct medal. He also received the 2013 Veterans Salute Honoree due in part to the impact he has had on the Veteran population in his area.

“I take great pride in naming Peter Maroosis as my district’s Veteran of the Year,” said Melendez. “His service to our country and fellow veterans over the years is inspiring and deserves recognition.”
