Authorities today announced the arrest of the driver of a pickup truck that crashed into a guardrail on McCall Boulevard early Sunday morning, resulting in a serious injury to the passenger.

Officers from the Menifee Police Department were waiting at Inland Valley Medical Center as the driver of the vehicle was released after receiving medical treatment for his injuries. Robert Joseph Padilla, 21, of Nuevo, was taken to the Southwest Dentention Center, where he was booked on suspicion of causing injuries resulting from driving under the influence.

Padilla was released after posting a $50,000 bond. According to police, the case has been submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office for filing of charges.

The victim, a woman from Perris whose name has not been released, remains hospitalized in critical condition. She was struck by the guardrail, which crashed through the length of the truck after the vehicle drifted off the side of the road at 12:49 a.m. Sunday

The investigation is continuing and anyone that may have witnessed the collision or may have further information is asked to call the Menifee Police Department Traffic Division at 951-210-1000.
