The Riverside Country Board of Education is comprised of seven members who each represent one of seven trustee areas. Voters in each respective area elect their board member to a four-year term, and these four-year terms are staggered to ensure continuity on the Board.

The Board meets once a month to carry out their responsibilities, including such matters as approving the annual county office of education budget and acting as the appeal board for various district issues such as student expulsion and transfers, to name a few.

The collective goal of the Riverside County Board of Education is to provide a “collaborative organization characterized by the highest quality employees providing leadership, programs and services to school districts, schools and students countywide in order to ensure the success of all students.”

As the Riverside County Board of Education moves towards their June 5th election day, the seat representing Menifee area schools is up for appointment.

Two candidates, current Board member Bruce Dennis, and Bill Gould, are vying for the seat to represent Area 4, which includes Menifee, Hemet, Nuview, Romoland, Perris High School, Perris Elementary, Romoland, and San Jacinto school districts.

Bruce Dennis

Bruce Dennis currently holds the Area 4 Board Member position and is campaigning for reelection for the consecutive four-year term. Dennis was unanimously appointed to fill the position in June of 2011 when Betty Gibbel retired.

Family: The education arena is a parallel interest in the Dennis household. Robin Dennis, his wife of 31 years, is a retired middle school teacher and his daughter, Sarah, is an associate professor at Palomar Community College.

Current Profession: Postmaster for the United States Postal Service in Walnut, California.

Education: Dennis holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Financial Management, from California State University Fullerton and a Masters in Boardsmanship from the California School Boards Association.

Community Involvement: He has held a past President position of the Rotary Club as well as Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.

He has been involved with the Delegate Assembly, Policy Platform Committee, and the Small School District Committee for California School Boards Association.

Prior offices held: Dennis has 13 years experience as a member on the Nuview Union school board, of which he has been President four times. He has also held the position of Federal Government Relations Chair for the National School Boards Association.

From 2002 to 2007 Dennis was a member of the Board of Directors for Riverside County School Boards Association and in 2005 he held the title of President.

William “Bill” Gould

Bill Gould has lived in Riverside County since 1989 and graduated from Murrieta Valley High School.

Current Profession: Bill Gould is the Vice President of the family business, Full Value Property Management based in Murrieta.

Education: Gould holds a Masters in Governance from CSBA.

Community Involvement: He is a current member of the City of Menifee Trails Committee. He has been a member of Joey’s Pals non-profit organization, the Arts Council of Temecula Valley, the City of Temecula Youth Master Plan Committee, and the Helping Americas Youth of Temecula, which was a White House initiative, led by Laure Bush.

He also founded and directed the Temecula Music Fest, an annual youth oriented music event.

  1. Take a moment and look at the two candidates websites. From the state, county and local level, the education community is really behind Mr. Dennis. Combine the endorsements with their backgrounds and the choice is clear.

  2. Their education resumes are not even close, Dennis has my vote.

It is not just elected officials who endorse Bruce Dennis, so does the Riverside County Office Teachers Association.

  4. Why do people always think that former teachers, or family members of teachers, make effective board members? They only have the best interest of teachers. Our board members should have the best interest our kids.

  5. Unreliable. Thats been the word that describes Bill Gould here in Menifee. Trails Committee attendance and involvement, not a team player. Last month, a Menifee talent show had him on the program, but he did not show up. Will he leave the voters hangin if elected?

  6. If a candidate only had the teachers union endorsing them, then I too would be more than a little wary. But to simply discount a candidate and assume they put teachers first because a family memeber is a teacher is just wrong. Like a previous comment said - check out their websites. Make an informed decision.

  7. Big difference aside from experience was their position on unification. Gould thinks that Menifee along with Romoland, Perris and Nuview should unify into one large district, Dennis does not. While Menifee's recent attempt to unify did not succeed, I would rather wait a few more years and unify on the current Menifee boundaries. This would retain local control and community identity. Menifee is also far and away the best of the Perris High School District's feeder districts.

  8. Bruce Dennis was just earned the endorsement of www.ElectionForum.org for his election bid June 5 for the Riverside County Board of Education, Trustee Area 4.

Election Forum is a Christian based organization that ranks every aspect of a candidate’s record according to experience, integrity and commitment to community.

Nothing is overlooked, from their positions, their contributions and who contributed to them, to endorsements and much more.
