Get your detours and driving plans ready, because starting on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 and extending into May the SR 79 will be periodically closed completely.
In a construction effort to widen the 79 from two lanes to four, segments of the rocky hillside need to be blasted away which results in the necessity of full road closure.
The County of Riverside Transportation Department conducted impact studies to determine the optimum time and day for least intrusive road closure.
At their conclusion, Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM is the least congested travel time. Beginning, April 18th through the end of May 2012 the 79 will be closed from Domenigoni Parkway to Scott Road during the specified time and days.
When completed the SR 79 widening project will will relieve congestion, improve safety, and provide consistency with other improvements along SR 79.
The SR 79 Widening Project will ultimately widen a 5.4 mile segment of SR 79 from two to four lanes between Thompson and Domenigoni Parkway, modify local access, and improve various intersections.
The entire project will be performed in two stages, each taking an estimated 12 months to complete.
The first stage is the blasting from Scott Road to Domenigoni Parkway and the second stage will take place from Thompson to Scott Road with intersection improvements at Newport Road.
